FAQ

General Questions

What is the difference between your Standard and Premium Gallery?
A Dedicated IP Address. Premium galleries include a Dedicated IP Address

What is a dedicated ip address?
Every domain name that is home to a website has an IP address assigned to it. An IP address is the real address of a website. For example, if you typed 206.130.107.193 into your web browsers address bar you would see Gallery Web Host website come up. This is my dedicated ip address. Most websites share an ip address, sometimes hundreds, even thousands can share the same ip address.

Do I need a dedicated ip address?
Not necessarily. Most websites share an ip address without problems. Dedicated ips are required for sites accepting credit cards. Your gallery shopping cart can use PayPal to process credit cards and can do so without a Dedicated IP address but with very limited options. For advanced PayPal features, PayPal requires you to have a dedicated ip address. To put simply, without an IP address when they are sent to PayPal from your gallery, it will show your PayPal email address in the header. With a Dedicated IP address we can have it show your logo or banner and make it look more like your gallery. Much more professional looking. I also believe a Dedicated IP address can help with the search engines

How is my gallery hosted?
All Gallery Web Host galleries are hosting on their own VPS. With Virtual Private Server (VPS Hosting), also known as Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS Hosting) technology, a web server is divided into multiple isolated environments. Each environment has its own server software providing independence for that website and gallery.  Scripts, database and programs used to run your gallery are not shared by any other user. With this I am able to fine tune servers to best match your galley’s needs. I could easily host all my clients on a single VPS and a single IP address. This is how most the better online photo galleries work. At Gallery Web Host I offer a premium service by isolating each gallery on it’s own VPS.

Do I have to know any programming?
No. Not at all. It is quite easy to manage your gallery. Everything is done online with an intuitive interface.

How can my gallery be used to sell prints?
Your gallery comes with two methods for selling prints online. Your gallery has a shopping cart that can be used to take orders that you print yourself. You can accept online payments thru your gallery with a free PayPal account. Your gallery ties in directly with PayPals payment service for credit card processing.

Your gallery can also tie in directly with Digibug an online printing service offering everything from prints, posters, mug, mouse pads and t-shirts. Its free to sign up with Digibug and you set the prices and products you want to sell. Digibug does the processing and you receive monies directly from them for all sales. For example say you want to sell 8 X 10s. You set the price at $20.00 – the wholesale price is $1.90 – you receive $18.10   Digibug does the printing, credit card processing and shipping. You select which images in your gallery to offer for printing.

Are my images secure online?
When you upload an image it is stored in an area on your server that is not accessible via the web. You then decide what resized version of that image to make available for viewing via the gallery. The resized versions of the images can be watermarked for added protection. I can also remove the ability for people to right click to save an image.
